The Twitter Project, Part 1.

I joined Twitter a few years ago and pretty much let my account collect dust. I popped on every once in a while to see what all the fuss was about, but I wasn’t very interested in what Ashton Kutcher or Taylor Swift were up to so I found little use for it.

Now, at the urging of my publicist, I am – for the first time – making a proper attempt to learn about the power of the social medium. I’m going to make a concerted effort to properly use the twitter machine and will try my best to document my successes and failures.

Day 1:

– I had about 50+ followers, most of them porn or bots that auto-liked my profile.

– I made roughly 60 tweets (over 3 years). These were predominantly links to funny articles, pictures, videos, etc. (I’m not really one for sharing my thoughts to no one in particular).

– I followed just over 300 people, mostly news pages, sports broadcasters and players, and a few celebrities I would like to sleep with.

– I sent about 4 DM’s to someone I was no longer following (back in 2009). I don’t know why.

After Week 1: (about 10-15 minutes on twitter a day)

– I have 159 followers. (+90)

– I’ve made 115 Tweets. (+55)

– I’m following 447 people (only 1 celebrity I’d like to sleep with).

I’m not sure what this says about me or my twitter skills. I’m still trying to figure out the point of it all. If after a while I find that it’s just a tool for attention, I’m not sure I’ll last very long. I’m meant to be publicizing my book, but everything I’ve read suggests that people get turned off by solicitation. So, off to week 2 I go with only a little more clarity, and less of a chance of going on a date with Diora Baird.

If you have any tips or advice, I’m all eyes.
